Deputy Coonan said: “This funding from the Department of Environment will go towards a variety of small-scale Tipperary projects such as improving recycling at schools, erecting signage along loop walks, planting to aid biodiversity, turning wasteland into community gardens and to revive estates.”

“The funding compiles the applicant’s own individual investment, an environment fund award and a Local Authority award. The fund promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at local level.

“A wide variety of projects and schemes have been supported under the Fund in previous years including community gardens, allotments and compost schemes, rainwater harvesting systems, educational initiatives and environmental exhibitions.

Under this scheme, a total of €400,000 was provided by the Department in 2013 to 669 projects around the country. This funding is matched by equivalent funding from the local authorities and I am sure the many Tipperary groups will be pleased to hear of this funding which will contribute towards their environmental projects,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
